GUAJIRA
Guajira means “country music” in Cuban Spanish and is a musical form which has a rural feeling in its lyrics, instrumentation and style. This genre had some similarity to the criolla and, to a lesser extent, the punto. It contains bucolic countryside lyrics and rhyming similar to décima poetry. The guajira could be sung by a single musician accompanying themself on guitar. The lyrics of the guajira typically extol the beauty of the Cuban countryside and the lifestyle of the guajiros (countryside peasants).
